Há três formas do verbo to be (ser/estar) no presente: am, is, are. No passado há apenas duas formas: was ou were. Observe a conjugação abaixo:

Na forma interrogativa o verbo to be é invertido para o início da frase bem como no presente.
Was Kate sick. (Kate estava doente?)
Was Bob tired. (Bob estava cansado?)
Were the girls angry.(As garotas estavam irritadas?)
Were thee boys hungry? (Os garotos estavm com forme?)
NEGATIVE FORM
Na forma negativa, adicionamos a partícula NOT de negação ou usamos as formas contractas was not (wasn't) ou were not (weren't).
Kate was NOT (ou wasn't) sick. (Kate NÃO estava doente.)
Bob was NOT (ou wasn't) tired. (Bob NÃO estava cansado.)
The girls were NOT (ou weren't) angry.(As garotas NÃO estavam irritadas.)
The boys were NOT hungry. (Os garotos NÃO estavm com forme.)
