   As expressões idiomáticas, em Inglês, são chamadas de special expressions<\/em><\/strong> ou de idioms<\/strong><\/em>. Como em português, trata-se de expressões que se utilizam das palavras em sentido figurado. Algumas são praticamente idênticas àquelas que usamos aqui no Brasil. Outras, não podem ser traduzidas ao pé da letra, caso contrário, não fariam sentido. Vejamos algumas dessas expressões com as cores.

\nBLUE<\/strong><\/span>
\nOnce in a blue moon = muito raramente.<\/u><\/strong>
\nI meet my relatives once in a blue moon<\/strong>, because we live in different cities. (Encontro meus parentes muito raramente porque vivemos em cidades diferentes.)<\/em>

\nJean is always travelling so I see her once in a blue moon<\/strong>. (Jean está sempre viajando, então eu a vejo muito raramente.)<\/em>

\nYou make me feel blue<\/strong>. (Você faz eu me sentir triste.)<\/em>

\nThe black sheep<\/u><\/strong> Como no português, a ovelha negra é “the odd or bad member of the group”.

\nBlack list = lista negra, igual ao português.<\/u><\/strong>
\nI am very dissapointed with you. You are in my black list<\/strong>. (Estou muito desapontado com você. Você está na minha lista negra.)<\/em>

\nBlack market = mercado negro, vendido ilegalmente, contrabandeado.<\/u><\/strong>
\nSome animals are sold in the black Market<\/strong>. (Alguns animais são vendidos no mercado negro.)<\/em>

\nBlack and White = simples e de fácil entendimento.<\/u><\/strong>

\nWhite as a ghost = ficar muito pálido por um susto ou de medo.<\/u><\/strong> O equivalente em português é ficar branco como um fantasma.

\nWhite elephant = alguma coisa grande, incômoda e desnecessária.<\/u><\/strong> Também se diz “um elefante branco” em português.

\nYellow journalism: imprensa sensacionalista, difamatória ou interesseira.<\/u><\/strong>

\nGREEN<\/span><\/strong>
\nBe green with envy = ter muita inveja ou, literalmente, ficar verde de inveja.<\/u><\/strong>
\nI was green with envy<\/strong> when my friend showed me the diamond ring her husband had given her. (Fiquei verde de inveja quando minha amiga me mostrou o anel de diamantes que o marido dela a havia dado.)<\/em>

\nGive the green light = dar “sinal verde para algo”; aprovar um projeto ou um pedido.<\/u><\/strong>
